The piece was washed after cutting from the loom and finished by hand-shearing to even the pile and bring the drawing forward at the right relief.

The composition

Natural carries the field with a depth that only comes from wool taken through multiple dye baths. The pattern resolves at the scale of a room, not at the scale of a sample. The colour shifts by a perceptible degree from one end of the rug to the other, the signature of plant-based dyeing rather than a fault in the work.
