Happy Colours is the workshop's own description of an edition that does not commit to a single dye register. Several patches are dipped in different baths before assembly, so the rug brings together greens, blues, rusts, ochres, plums, and pinks under an overall colour story tilted toward warmth. The composition behaves like a quiet carnival rather than a single tone, and the older medallions of the contributing fragments give the assembly a base architecture that keeps the brightness from running loose.

The 10' x 14' (305 x 427 cm) carpet was hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation across multiple source fragments, then assembled and finished in India by three to four weavers and a finishing team over close to seven months. The construction is the asymmetric Persian pile knot. After joining, the panel was washed and the various dye registers were balanced through a final unifying tone bath. Two weeks of hand shearing brought the entire surface to a uniformly low pile.

The composition

The visible field is a constellation of colour patches sitting next to one another in considered adjacency. Each fragment retains its original medallion or border architecture but reads as a single colour event because the pile height is uniform and the overall tone is balanced. The eye moves freely across the carpet rather than landing in one place. Up close every patch is a small textile in its own right; at distance the rug behaves as a kinetic colour study.
