Cyclamen is the rarest of the overdye pinks because the bath has to land somewhere between magenta and dusty rose without dropping into either. The colour belongs to the small flowering plant that gives it its name, and reproducing that on wool requires a careful sequence of dye additions over many hours. This rug holds the cyclamen tone consistently across the entire field.

Older hand-knotted wool segments were sourced, sheared down, and stripped of their original dye. Two artisans worked the dye phase over roughly four months, lowering each section into a cyclamen bath at controlled temperature for forty-eight hours. A finisher stitched the patches together on a cotton backing and finished the pile with a hand-shear to six millimetres.

The composition

A field of cyclamen pink that shifts from patch to patch between dusty rose and a deeper plum-pink under lamplight. Underlying carpet patterns ghost through as faint tonal differences rather than visible figures. The seams between patches are quiet. The dye carries a particular kind of warmth that flatters skin tones and reads softly under both daylight and tungsten. Over two years the colour will settle by half a stop into something closer to old velvet.

Conservation
