Cool Blue in the patchwork vocabulary refers to a saturated mid-blue with a slight green shift, neither the warmer Mediterranean register of capri nor the deeper indigo of after-dark, but a temperate register that reads clean against most palettes. Cool blue at this saturation is one of the more achievable overdye chemistries because indigo cures evenly under sun and holds depth without requiring auxiliary pigment. The patchwork construction provides the internal articulation that prevents a single-piece carpet at this colour from reading flat at the scale of a sitting room.
Antique source carpets four to six decades old were chosen for tonal compatibility, cut into rectangular registers, and joined on cotton scrim by three artisans. The whole field was hand-washed and sheared back to a uniform pile, then immersed in a sun-cured indigo bath. The cure occurred in air rather than in heat, which is why the surface holds the soft chromatic unevenness of plant dye rather than the flat saturation of industrial colour. Wear patterns from the original use remain visible across the field as small articulations.
The composition
A cool saturated blue field divided into rectangles, each one holding the ghost of its source carpet beneath the wash; floral palmettes here, geometric tribal repeats there, fragments of classical border running diagonally through two or three of the larger registers. The blue shifts across the day; morning light pulls the field toward green; evening returns it to true blue. The carpet reads as a single chromatic plane from across a room and opens into a layered history on close approach.
What you are buying
Single-source antique carpets at this fibre and age sell with European dealers between four and seven lakh rupees with attribution. The patchwork carries the same pile maturity into a single coherent field that no single antique example could supply. The carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating. The indigo continues to develop into its final register for two to three years and the green shift settles slightly as the wool oxidises.
The piece in a room
5' x 8' (152 x 244 cm) sits in a sitting area, a primary bedroom, or under a small dining table. Cool blue holds against bone-white plaster walls and against pale linen upholstery. The colour pairs naturally with brass, with mid-century walnut, and with bleached oak floors. The carpet pairs poorly with strongly patterned curtains, which compete with the latent geometry of the field. Whitewashed walls let the blue expand outward; deeper plaster lets it settle into the architecture.
Conservation
Rotate twice a year for even traffic and light. Vacuum on low suction with the beater bar disengaged so the cotton scrim remains unstressed. Blot spills downward into the pile with a clean cotton cloth rather than wiping across. Engage a patchwork-trained wool conservator every four years for hand cleaning. The carpet runs decades under those terms and the indigo continues to develop across most of that span.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
