Chestnut is a colour with weight. It carries the warmth of mature wood, the depth of an old saddle, and the slight cool edge of polished horn, all at once. In wool the tone is reached by laying madder over walnut hull, and the pile then has to be washed back to bloom the cooler highlight in the surface. This patchwork carpet uses an overdye bath in that register to harmonise dozens of separately woven hand-knotted fragments into a single rich chestnut field.
Three to four weavers shared the loom in India for roughly seven months to bring this 10' x 14' (305 x 427 cm) carpet into its final form. Each fragment was originally hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation in the classical asymmetric structure before being cut, joined, washed, and dyed together. The post-dye finishing was done by hand with shears over two weeks to bring the entire surface to one low, even pile that lets the colour breathe.
The composition
The dye does the unifying work. Persian medallions, Turkish geometrics, and Caucasian latches all sit beneath the chestnut wash and only declare themselves on close approach. The deeper underlying reds turn to oxblood; the indigos turn to slate; the bone whites read as parchment. From across a room the carpet behaves as one tonal painting; from chair-distance it offers an entire library of older pattern grammar.
What you are buying
Comparable hand-knotted patchworks of this size carry international gallery prices between USD 9,000 and USD 16,000 once dealer margin and freight are included. The Rugsville price of INR 1,88,699 against MSRP INR 7,54,600 reflects direct sourcing without the dealer chain. Construction matches the higher-end European supply, fragment by fragment. Pieces of this provenance hold and grow value as the supply of authentic older fragments contracts.
The piece in a room
The rug pairs naturally with leather, oak, brass, and aged bronze, and it warms a room with concrete or pale plaster walls. 10' x 14' (305 x 427 cm) sits cleanly beneath a generous sectional with two facing chairs, or beneath a ten-seater dining table with even border on all sides. The chestnut ground reads particularly well against cream upholstery and against the warm honey of older teak.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet 180 degrees once a year. Vacuum gently on suction only, never with a beater bar, every week. Blot accidents with cotton and cool water and call in a specialist for any stubborn mark. A professional hand-wash every five to seven years revives the chestnut depth. Treated this way, the rug serves a household for sixty to eighty years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
