The original knot work is hand-knotted wool on a cotton foundation, with the original pile preserved through the overdye bath. The final assembly was completed in India, in the workshop tradition that has built the patchwork category over the last twenty years.

The composition

A field of pieced fragments resolved into one deep tonal register through controlled overdyeing. The patchwork seams remain visible as a graphic element, dividing the field into irregular blocks, while the underlying drawing of each fragment ghosts through the overdye as residual pattern. The After Dark register is dominated by deep blue-black, with secondary notes of plum and oxblood emerging where the original carpet pigment resisted the bath. The piece reads as one composition rather than as a collection of remnants.
