The wool was drawn from long-staple fleece that takes vegetable dye to the soft mid-tones the Ziegler tradition asks for. The light blue was prepared from a single short indigo bath rather than the deep multi-vat dip a Heriz would receive, and the beige is undyed cream wool washed once and laid down without modification. The dye baths matured in copper vats for two weeks before the skeins were lowered.

The composition

An open beige ground carries a vine in pale indigo running corner to corner. The medallion is implied rather than drawn, a quiet thickening of pattern at the centre. The border is a single restrained guard band. The colour will move slowly over the next decade. The beige will warm into bone, the light blue will hold its tone with occasional indigo settling deeper into the pile. A Ziegler in this palette is built to recede rather than to claim a room.
