The Ziegler name belongs to a German trading house that opened in Manchester in 1883 and commissioned Persian master weavers to draw the dense classical floral repeats into something the English drawing room could read. The firm sent designers to the Persian highlands, supplied them with European interior plates, and asked them to translate. What came back was the open-field, soft-palette, single-medallion carpet that has dominated Western traditional interiors for one hundred and forty years. The pattern in this carpet sits inside that long lineage.

Two weavers shared the loom in India for around five months. Roughly 2.3 million Persian-asymmetric knots tied by hand on a cotton warp, with the wool hand-spun and dyed in small lots that leave subtle abrash through the field. After the carpet came down from the loom it was washed three times in cold water and laid out in the sun. This wash protocol is what gives a Ziegler-tradition carpet its characteristic softness and the slight surface lustre of the wool.

The composition

A beige field carries floral and palmette work in faded sage, ivory, and rose. The central medallion sits at the classical proportions, with the corner pendants resolved into the field rather than walled off. The border holds a single vine band against a deeper beige guard. The carpet will warm with age, the beige toward bone and the rose toward terracotta, as the wool oxidises through the next decade. Beige is the most architecturally forgiving ground in the Persian repertoire.

The carpet stays in service for fifty to a hundred years with this routine.
