The composition

A blue field, drawn close, then opened toward the borders. The ziegler elements are scaled so the eye reads the whole rug at room distance and the detail at walking distance. The dyes were drawn from plant sources where possible, which is why the field carries a slight tonal shift across its width rather than a printed evenness.
