The flatweave tradition runs older than the knotted carpet. dhurrie flatweave compositions survived for centuries because a weft-faced loom puts down colour in clean blocks of the kind a knotted pile cannot match for graphic clarity.
The piece was hand-woven in India by 2 weavers over 3 weeks on a horizontal floor loom. Hand-spun wool was beaten down between cotton warps with a wooden comb, one weft pick at a time, building the pattern from the bottom edge upward. Flatweave construction, no pile.
The composition
The palette is brown and walnut. Flatweave colour reads cleaner than pile colour because there is no surface depth to muddy the hue. The pattern sits flat against the floor like ink on paper rather than rising as texture. Each weft pass commits a single line of colour into the structure, and the joins between blocks of colour register as the small slits that mark every authentic kilim.
Flatweave is the most honest format the wool loom produces. There is no pile to hide a misjudged proportion, no carving to soften a sharp angle. What you see is what was beaten into the warp, line by line, by hand. The rug lies flat against the floor without an underlay and accepts furniture without the compression marks a pile carpet shows under chair legs.
The piece in a room

Flatweave construction is light enough to pick up and shake out, which is why these pieces age well in active households. The brown field gives a quiet ground for a desk and chair or for a small reading group of two armchairs.
Care
Vacuum weekly on the lowest pile setting or with the beater bar off. Spot clean with cold water and mild detergent on a clean cotton cloth, blotting rather than rubbing. Flatweaves dry quickly because there is no pile to hold moisture. Professional cold-water wash every two to three years. Reverse the rug end-for-end annually so the wear distributes along the length and use an underlay if the surface tends to slip on smooth flooring.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
