Solid-ground rugs in saturated colour are the simplest and the most demanding form a wool rug can take. There is nowhere for an irregularity to hide. The depth has to come from the dye and the pile alone, which means the wool selection, the dye lot consistency, and the shear height all have to be controlled with more discipline than a patterned rug requires.
This piece carries blue as a single saturated field. The wool was over-dyed in two baths rather than dipped once, which is what gives the surface its slight tonal shift under changing light. The drawing is the colour itself.
This rug was hand-tufted in India over 3 to 4 weeks by a small team of two tufters and a finisher. New Zealand wool was pushed through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time with a tufting tool, then sealed at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim that locks the pile and keeps the rug stable on the floor. The final pass was done with hand shears to relieve the drawing above the ground by a measured fraction of a centimetre, which is the detail that makes the pattern read at room scale.
The composition
Blue sits across the field as the carrying note, with the pattern reading in low relief because the pile was sheared to a fraction of a centimetre below the rest of the surface. The contrast deepens slightly with use as the higher pile compresses and the lower drawing holds its line. The rug is built to look more settled at year three than it does on day one.
The piece in a room
5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) is the working scale for an accent zone. A reading chair and a side table, the foot of a queen bed, a console-and-mirror entry composition, or a defined corner of a larger living room. The blue ground holds against pale walls and gathers around itself in the evening when the lighting drops. Pair with a single piece of upholstered furniture sitting half on, half off the rug, rather than trying to enclose a full grouping.
Care
Vacuum gently, beater bar disengaged. Use cold water and a clean cloth on accidental spills, working from the edges inward. A rotation twice a year evens out the traffic pattern. Dry-clean the rug professionally every two to three years rather than wet-cleaning at home.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
