The blue ground was achieved with an indigo dye prepared in extended cold-water vats.

A soft blue field carries a faded floral repeat in deeper blue, ivory, and faint rust, with a quiet border in deeper blue and ivory. The antique wash flattens the colour saturations into a unified soft palette, the way a forty-year-old carpet reads in a heritage room. The drawing remains visible without dominating; the rug carries its visual weight through colour rather than through pattern complexity.
