Orange is the colour the overdye process treats most carefully. Pushed too far it tips toward saturated brick; held back, it falls into mute terracotta. The narrow band where it sits as a confident, breathing orange is the result of dye chemistry that took workshops two decades to lock down. This rug is a patchwork overdyed in that band, where the orange holds its register without bleaching toward red on one side or sliding to ochre on the other. The lineage of the technique began in Anatolian workshops and was refined by Indian weavers working in the same idiom.
Two to three weavers shared the loom across roughly three and a half months. Wool was hand-knotted onto a cotton warp and weft at standard pile, the rug then cut into rectangular panels along the grain, restitched, and lowered into an orange aniline bath calibrated to a slightly acidic pH. The acid lifts old colour at a controlled rate, which is what keeps the under-pattern visible as faint figuration rather than burning it away. Final shearing brings the pile down to about eight millimetres so the seam grid reads as part of the composition.
The composition
A field of saturated orange shading from rust to burnt cantaloupe across the panels, with under-imagery in cream, faded indigo, and old gold coming through the wash. The seams sit as a regular grid of twelve to sixteen tiles, depending on how the panels were arrayed. Sunlight warms the orange toward red; cooler interior light settles it toward apricot. The rug does not present as one flat colour; it reads as a layered surface where every panel tells a slightly different story under the same skin.
What you are buying
Dealer pricing for hand-knotted overdyed wool patchwork at this size band sits in the 1,650 to 2,500 GBP range internationally. Listed here at 80,899 against an MSRP of 3,23,400, the rug runs well below comparable Western retail. The base wool is itself old enough to have completed a settling period, which is why the patina reads authentic from day one rather than appearing as a freshly woven floor.
The piece in a room
6' x 10' (183 x 305 cm) is a generous bedroom anchor or a living-area centre runner. Orange this saturated wants quiet companions. Bone walls, off-white plaster, soft sage, or cool pale grey hold the colour without competing. It pairs with walnut, blackened oak, leather, linen, and brass; it pushes back against chrome and rose-gold. Keep wall art muted in palette; the rug is the chromatic event.
Conservation
Rotate twice annually to balance light wear. Vacuum suction-only every week, no beater bar contact. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth flat against the pile rather than rubbing across it. Engage a wool-trained cleaner for full hand-wash every five years. With this protocol the rug will run sixty to seventy years under daily household use, deepening rather than dulling.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
