The panels are hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, sourced from a stock of older woven pieces. After the patchwork was joined and reinforced, the rug went through a mild antique wash to soften the original colour saturations into a more unified palette without erasing them; the rug was then sheared close.

The composition

The patchwork grid is irregular, with panels in soft rust, faded indigo, ivory, muted ochre, and a faded rose. The mild antique wash unifies the saturations enough that the panels read as a single composition rather than as a pile of fragments; the colours sit in conversation rather than in clash. The seams are visible but understated; the eye reads the field as a chromatic patchwork at room distance.
