Labour total runs to about nine weaver-months including dye preparation.

The composition

Grey at three or four saturation levels, ranging from charcoal in the deeper passages to dove in the lighter ones. Underlying motifs from the source fragments ghost through where the over-dye registers thin, giving the field a structural depth that pure abstract drawing cannot match. The grey reads cool against warm wood and warm against cool walls, which is the practical reason the colour works in so many rooms.
