Complete your setup
The dhurrie is among the oldest surviving textile forms on the subcontinent, a flat-weave tradition that ran in parallel with knotted pile production from the moment that pile arrived under Mughal patronage. This rug works the neutral side of that historical palette.
The dhurrie was hand-loomed in 3 weeks of bench time. The construction is weft-faced flat-weave, no pile, no knot, the design built into the structure of the cloth itself. The jute / sisal carries its colour with the slight tonal variation only natural fibre and small-batch dye produce. No two square feet of the rug read identically; that irregularity is the difference between a hand-loomed piece and a printed copy. The yarn was sourced and spun specifically for this production batch rather than pulled off general inventory, and the colour register stays consistent across the full run of the rug.
The composition
The composition runs in natural and an answering second tone, the two colours meeting at clean, deliberate joins where the design changes. The colour holds steady because flat-weave does not produce the directional pile shading a cut-pile rug carries. The colour will move slightly over the first year of use as the dye sets into its final register and the natural light exposure works the saturation toward its long-term level. A flat-weave does not arrive complete; it settles into its finished state over the first season.
The piece in a room
At 5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) the rug suits a covered porch, an open kitchen, a sitting area in a flat with cane and timber furniture, or a hallway. The natural reads against painted brick, white plaster, and warm timber equally well.
Care
Light vacuuming once a week, suction only, no rotating brush. Spot clean with cool water; do not introduce strong detergents that contain optical brighteners. The piece is reversible and benefits from being turned over each season. A specialist clean every two to three years extends the working life by decades, and a thin underlay protects both the rug and the floor beneath it.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
