Jacob is the in-house design name for a soft-tonal Persian rust ground composition that an Indian workshop developed in the early 2000s as a smaller-scale companion to the larger Sultanabad pieces. The 6 x 9 size is the working scale for an apartment drawing room or a primary bedroom, with enough surface to anchor furniture but small enough to read as a single composition rather than as a field. The colour palette is held in the rust register, with the accents working in tonal proximity rather than in sharp contrast.

Two to three weavers shared the vertical loom for close to four months. Nearly six months at the vertical beam, with four weavers sharing the long stretches. Madder root for the rust, walnut hull for the deeper outline, oak gall for the shadow, and pomegranate rind for the lighter cream details were each matured in copper vessels for two to three weeks. After clipping the rug saw four days of sun and a long mineral wash to settle the saturation into antique register.

The composition

A rust field carrying a measured palmette and vine repeat in deeper tones of the same value. The principal accents are walnut and a faint indigo outline. The border is a single guard band held narrow so the field carries the design. The two rust tones sit close enough that the rug reads as a single warm composition from across the room. From two metres the vine resolves into individual leaves and rosettes traveling diagonal.

What you are buying

Antique Persian carpets at 6 x 9 in this register reach twenty to forty-five thousand US dollars at international auction. This rug shares the loom architecture, the Persian knot, the long-staple wool, and the plant-dye discipline of those antiques. At one and a half lac it sits at a fraction of the auction comparable and appreciates with use rather than depreciating.

The piece in a room

6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) sits cleanly under a primary seating arrangement with the front legs of the sofa landing on the wool, or under a queen bed extending past the foot. The rust palette pairs with walnut, brass, oxblood leather, terracotta plaster, and chalk walls. South-light rooms warm the rust further.

Conservation

Rotate the rug a half turn each spring and autumn. Vacuum weekly, suction only. Blot spills at once with cotton, never rub. Hand-wash by a trained wool conservator every five to six years. With this care the rug crosses eight decades in regular use.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.

Have a question about this carpet?

We are happy to answer questions about size, material, weave technique, sample availability, custom orders, lead times, or anything else. Average reply time is under 30 minutes during business hours (10am – 7pm IST).
