Vegetable-dyed wool weaving in brown and beige is the quietest version of the Persian carpet vocabulary. No saturated reds or indigos to do the work; the entire composition rests on tonal value, on the way one shade of walnut sits next to one shade of bone. Done well, the result is a carpet that reads like wood grain on the floor: continuous, calm, and unmistakably hand-made.
About 2.4 million asymmetric knots, tied across roughly five months by three weavers sharing a vertical loom in India. The pile is hand-spun wool, dyed entirely with plant preparations. The browns came from walnut hull and oak gall; the beiges from a weak madder bath; the cream tones are undyed natural fleece. Each dye batch was prepared in copper vats over slow flame and matured for several weeks before the wool was lowered into it, which is how vegetable colour reaches the depth chemical dye cannot.
The composition
A warm beige ground carries an open central drawing in walnut brown and a softer rose-brown, with vine scrolls running corner to corner. The browns are layered, not flat: a darker bistre at the centre, lightening toward the borders where dye sat thinnest. The drawing is restrained on purpose. With this much tonal sophistication on offer, anything more decorative would compete. Over a decade the browns will warm and the beiges will gain the cream of aged wool.
What you are buying
Vegetable-dyed hand-knotted carpets at this drawing standard list with Western dealers at three to four times the price asked here. The piece is hand-knotted in fully prepared vegetable dye, which is roughly twice the labour of a chemically dyed equivalent. The carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and gains visible depth as the wool's lanolin migrates to the surface.
The piece in a room
The brown-and-beige palette is the most architectural choice in the carpet vocabulary and pairs without effort with walnut, oak, leather, brass, and limestone. 8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) sets a primary living room or a six-to-eight seat dining footprint. The drawing reads especially well against pale plaster walls and warm wood floors. Avoid layering against patterned upholstery; let the carpet supply the texture.
Conservation
Rotate end for end every six months. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth and never apply heat. Vegetable-dyed wool ages well in indirect daylight; direct sun for a few hours daily mellows colour without damaging fibre. Plan a wool-trained hand-wash every five years. Treated this way, the carpet runs eighty years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
