The decorative vocabulary of this rug draws on a century-long exchange between the village looms of West Asia and the design studios of the European and American post-war interior. The neutral palette belongs to the contemporary end of that arc.
A single hand worked the piece for 5 months at the vertical loom. Approximately 1.0 million knots in total, every one tied by hand at the loom. The pile is New Zealand fleece, washed and combed to a long, even staple before spinning, which is why the colour reads with the depth of an oil paint rather than a flat synthetic dye job. Vegetable dyes were prepared from madder, indigo, weld, and tannin sources, the wool fermenting in the vat over hours rather than dipped under the synthetic short-cycle the trade volume relies on.
The composition
The neutral of the ground sits behind a layered lattice that reveals more on approach than at distance. The dye registers will move with light and traffic. A vegetable-dyed pile is not a finished surface; it is a starting point that the next twenty years complete.
What you are buying
₹43,899 is the democratic entry point to hand-knotted collecting, a tier the workshop produces for buyers who want serious hand-tied work without the auction-grade premium. The labour content alone, distributed across the bench time on the loom, anchors the figure.
The piece in a room
2'6" × 16' (76 × 488 cm) is the working scale for a study, a smaller seating area, a bedroom with the rug under the bed turned ninety degrees so it shows on three sides. The neutral answers warm timber as readily as it answers stone or polished concrete.
Conservation
Half-turn rotation twice a year. Suction-only vacuuming, weekly. White-cotton blotting on any spill, never rubbing. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the rug every five years to keep the dye registers fresh. With this discipline the carpet runs a century in continuous household use.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
