The carpet trade has run in continuous evolution between the workshops of West Asia and the European drawing room since the late seventeenth century, each generation editing what the last one left. The piece in front of you is the current chapter.
One weaver carried the loom across 4 months of bench time. The piece carries about 778K hand-tied knots, set one at a time against the warp. The pile is New Zealand fleece, washed and combed to a long, even staple before spinning, which is why the colour reads with the depth of an oil paint rather than a flat synthetic dye job. The colour was built up in the slow plant-dye discipline: madder boiled for the warm range, indigo fermented for the cool, walnut hull for the brown register, each cycle ageing in copper vats for days before the fibre touched the bath.
The composition
The composition runs in neutral across the field with corner work that turns the eye back inward. The dye registers will move with light and traffic. A vegetable-dyed pile is not a finished surface; it is a starting point that the next twenty years complete.
What you are buying
At ₹35,599 this is a working entry point into hand-knotted collecting, a tier where the labour cost itself, set against the months a weaver spent at the loom, makes the price unrepeatable.
The piece in a room
2'6" × 12' (76 × 366 cm) is the working scale for a study, a smaller seating area, a bedroom with the rug under the bed turned ninety degrees so it shows on three sides. The neutral answers warm timber as readily as it answers stone or polished concrete.
Conservation
Rotation at the change of seasons keeps the wear even. Vacuum on suction only. Blot any liquid immediately with white cotton. The rug needs a wool-trained hand wash every five to seven years and no other intervention. Eighty to a hundred years of life is realistic at this density.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
