Jacob is one of the late Persian floral patterns that became part of the contemporary vegetable-dye revival. Mocha and tan together is the warm-end resolution of that vocabulary; both colours sit at the madder-and-walnut end of the natural pigment spectrum, and the combination produces a rug that reads as a single chromatic event with internal modulation rather than as figure against ground. The format scales naturally to medium domestic carpets at this 6 by 9 ft size.

Two weavers worked roughly five months on this 6 by 9 ft (183 by 274 cm) hand-knotted piece on a vertical loom in India. The asymmetric Persian knot was tied throughout the body with New Zealand wool on a cotton warp, knot by knot at gallery density. The dyes were prepared in copper vats from madder root, walnut hull, and oak gall, each batch matured for two to three weeks before the wool was lowered. Total labour runs to roughly ten weaver-months including dye preparation.

The composition

A mocha ground at warm walnut saturation. Tan floral palmette and vine work pull through the field at calculated intervals, with the central medallion drawn in deeper mocha and the corner devices echoing the central rhythm. The vegetable dyes give the colour the abrash that natural pigment produces: small variations across the field that let the eye read the rug as a living object rather than a printed surface. Mocha deepens toward chestnut with use; tan warms toward bone.

What you are buying

Vegetable-dyed hand-knotted Persian-tradition rugs at this scale at international gallery dealers list at $5,000 to $13,000. The Rs 2.23 lac MSRP places this rug at fair gallery parity. Vegetable dyeing adds significant time and cost to the rug compared with synthetic-dyed work; the colour also matures rather than dulling, which is the long-term argument for the technique. The piece appreciates with use rather than depreciating.

The piece in a room

6 by 9 ft (183 by 274 cm) anchors a primary bedroom, a small living area with two seats and an armchair, or a four-seater dining setup. Pair with brass, walnut, leather, plaster walls in lime or warm putty, and natural linen. The mocha and tan palette pairs particularly well with mid-century furniture and works against bright primary upholstery, which fights the warm earth tones.

Conservation

Half-turn each season for even ageing. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with cotton, never rub. Conservator hand-wash every five years. Vegetable dyes deepen with light exposure rather than fading; direct sunlight in moderation improves the rug chromatically across decades.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.

Have a question about this carpet?
