Complete your setup
The patchwork form is younger than most carpet traditions, having taken shape only in the last forty years when dealers in Hamburg and Istanbul began experimenting with cut-and-recombine compositions to give over-familiar antique wool a second life. The hand-knotted version on the loom in front of you takes the visual logic of those compositions but builds it from scratch, square by square, in a single continuous weaving. The blue palette in this carpet is what holds the grid together as a single composition rather than a collection of unrelated tiles.
Two to three weavers shared the loom for close to four months. The pile is hand-spun wool, dyed in fifteen separate small batches before the work began so each blue panel sits at a slightly different saturation. The squares are arranged so no two adjacent panels carry the same pattern or the same dye lot. After weaving, the carpet was hand-sheared in alternating panels to give the field a tactile relief that flat-pile patchworks cannot reproduce.
The composition
A field of twelve to fifteen blues, from chambray and indigo through to nearly black, each panel carrying a small geometric or floral incident in cream or muted ochre. The sheared panels read as quiet pools against the longer-pile sections. The blues hold together because every dye batch shared a base of indigo and was modified by mordant rather than by mixing in unrelated dyestuffs. The variation is what gives the carpet its visual depth.
What you are buying
Cut-and-stitched antique patchworks from European dealers commonly trade in the five to eight thousand dollar range at this size. A hand-knotted patchwork built from new wool on a continuous loom, like this one, is structurally sounder; the foundation is whole rather than reassembled. A wool carpet of this density appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and the blue palette will soften rather than fade.
The piece in a room
5' x 8' (152 x 244 cm) anchors a smaller living room with a single sofa, a primary bedroom under the foot of the bed, or a study with a desk and reading chair. The blue field carries upholstery in cream, charcoal, and brown leather. The carpet handles oak, walnut, and stone floors equally well and reads particularly clean against pale lime-washed walls.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet a half turn every six months so wear distributes across the panel grid evenly. Vacuum once a week using suction only. Blot spills with a cotton cloth and cool water; do not scrub aggressively because the differential pile heights respond differently to mechanical pressure. Hand-wash by a conservator every five to six years to keep the wool resilient.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
