Complete your setup
Ikat is the resist-dye technique that makes the warp threads carry the pattern before the rug is even woven. Translated into a hand-knotted carpet of recycled sari silk, the soft edges and shifting saturations of the original ikat survive into the finished pile. The result is a textile that reads as luminous and slightly imperfect at every angle.
Tied by a single pair of hands over 4 months. Around 180 knots per square inch on a cotton foundation. Roughly 386,000 hand-tied knots in total. The pile is recycled sari silk, chosen because it takes plant dye to the depth the cartoon needs without flattening into uniformity. Dye throughout is set with traditional fixing salts and given a final wash to lock the saturation against light.
The composition
The palette: ivory field carrying scattered tones of madder, indigo, walnut, and bone. Soft-edged ikat motifs ranged across the field, the colour drift between them carrying that unmistakable resist-dye luminosity. The pile will compact slightly under traffic in the first season and the colour will pull together; the rug looks more itself with use, not less.
What you are buying
A hand-knotted carpet in this idiom and at this density is priced as a function of weaver-months and fibre, not of brand. Comparable workshop pieces in the Ikat Sari tradition reach Western dealer pricing of three to five times this figure when sized and dyed to the same standard. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating; there is no other object you put on a floor with that property.
The piece in a room
3' x 5' (91 x 152 cm) is the working size for a kitchen run, a small entry, a study under a desk, or a bedside. The multi ground sits well under furniture in oak, teak, walnut, or warm pine. The scale is small enough to layer over a larger neutral rug if the room benefits from a second tone, and large enough to anchor a single piece of furniture on its own. A piece at this scale settles the architecture of the room around itself.
Conservation
The carpet wants two simple things: regular rotation, and gentle cleaning. Turn it half a revolution every six months, vacuum once a week with the beater bar lifted, blot spills with a clean cotton cloth. Have it hand-washed by a wool conservator at five-year intervals. The rug is built to outlive its first owner and reward the next.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
