The trellis is one of those motifs that survives because it does nothing showy. A simple lattice grid, no centre, no border, no incident to anchor the eye. It works because nothing competes with it. The same logic governs Mughal jali screens and Hoffmann's Werkstätte grids.
The piece was hand-woven in India over 3 weeks on a horizontal loom by 1 weaver. There are no knots. The long-fibre jute weft is passed through the warp with a shuttle and beaten down with a comb at every pick, building the design by colour change rather than by surface pile. The result is a flat carpet that lies low to the floor and reads as a single piece of textile rather than as a layered surface. Each colour change in the field corresponds to a deliberate hand-bound interlock in the weave, which is what holds the design crisp at the edges. The piece reads at 2' x 3' (61 x 91 cm) in lavender, finished in India.
The composition
An open lattice in lavender runs across the field. No centre, no incident, the pattern works because nothing competes with it. The contrast is set by a millimetre of carved relief rather than by colour shift, so the geometry holds at a distance and resolves on approach. The undyed wool in the lattice deepens its contrast against the lavender ground over years of use rather than dulling, the way bleached fibres lose their note over time.
The piece in a room
At 2' x 3' (61 x 91 cm), the rug works as a sample of the larger composition. Set at a bedside, in front of a small reading chair, or as a graphic note inside a hallway. The lavender register holds against warm wood and against polished concrete with equal authority. The piece carries the same drawing logic as the larger pieces in the same family, which makes it useful as a starting point in a room before scaling up.
Care
A flatweave responds well to a light vacuum and a periodic shake outdoors. Blot spills, never scrub. The piece is reversible, which doubles its working life if rotated. Professional cleaning every three years is enough.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
