The hand-knotted carpet belongs to one of the oldest continuous craft lineages on the subcontinent. A vertical loom, a cotton warp under tension, single Persian-asymmetric knots tied row by row by hand against a beating comb. The discipline has changed very little in three centuries.
1 weaver sat at the loom for about six weeks of continuous work. Around 103 thousand knots at roughly 120 knots per square inch, tied by hand. The wool was hand-carded and hand-spun before dyeing, which is why the pile reads with the soft variation of a hand-finished surface rather than the flatness of mill yarn.
The composition
The palette runs through red as the dominant register, with secondary tones picked up in the borders and the smaller motifs of the field. The wool itself carries a subtle abrash, the slight tonal variation that comes from hand-spun yarn taking dye in micro-different ways. The drawing settles into the eye gradually, with new detail revealing on each return to the room.

For a hand-knotted wool carpet, this is the democratic end of the market. The construction discipline matches pieces several times the price; what differs is scale and density rather than fibre or method. A starting collector's piece that holds up through a decade of daily use.

Conservation
Vacuum weekly, suction only, no rotating brush. Half-turn rotation each season keeps the wear even. Treat spills by blotting from the outside in with a clean cotton cloth and cool water. Schedule a conservator's hand wash every five years. The rug is built for a long life and rewards routine care.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
