A multi-coloured Persian field carpet works on the principle that no single hue claims the room. Five to seven dye lots, each one in restrained quantity, are choreographed across the field so that the eye walks through the rug rather than landing on a focal point. The tradition goes back to the village looms of central Iran, but the most successful contemporary readings have come from the Indian workshops that preserved hand-spinning and small-batch dyeing through the second half of the twentieth century.
Two to three weavers worked this loom in India over roughly five months. Knots were tied on a cotton warp using hand-spun wool dyed in copper vats, with each colour matured separately before the wool was lifted out and dried. The cut pile was washed twice, finished by hand shears, and stretched on a level frame so the rectangle finishes square within a few millimetres rather than torquing the way a hurried weave will.
The composition
Ivory, rust, deep indigo, mossy green, soft camel, and a single thread of saffron, working in concert across an all-over floral. Each dye lot carries the slight unevenness of vegetable processing and small-batch wool, which means the field never reads as flat. Borders are layered, the inner narrow, the outer carrying the central motifs in mirror reduction. The rug is a pattern document and a colour study at the same time.
What you are buying
Multi-colour hand-knotted Persian-style wool carpets at 8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) sit in a price band where comparable pieces from Western dealers begin at three lakh and frequently clear five. Rugsville pricing reflects loom cost and material; what you save is the importer margin, which on an object of this size is substantial. Hand-knotted wool of this quality appreciates with use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) suits an open-plan drawing room or a primary bedroom where the bed and a bench at its foot fully sit on the rug. The colour density holds up against patterned wallpaper and bare lime-washed walls equally; the multi-hue field allows you to pull any single accent colour out of the rug and introduce it as a cushion or a vase without committing the room to a fixed palette.
Conservation
Rotate the rug 180 degrees every six months to balance light fade across the dye lots. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off. Blot any spill from the outside in with a clean white cotton cloth and cool water. Hand wash by a trained wool conservator every five to seven years rather than dry-clean; chemical solvents flatten the lustre that lanolin gives the fibre.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
