Ivory and rust is one of the older partnerships in the Persian floral tradition. The combination is structural rather than decorative, with the ivory ground providing the calm against which the rust passages can carry their depth. Workshops in central Persia worked this register for centuries before the pattern crossed into India, where the Mughal courts adapted the floral vocabulary into the carpet schools that survive in Indian production today. This piece reads in that direct lineage.
Four weavers shared a single loom in India for around six months. The pile is hand-spun wool, asymmetric knots tied row by row against a vertical beam, with cotton warps and wefts forming the foundation. The dyes are conventional rather than vegetable, achieving a stable saturation that holds across the carpet's life without the gradual lightening that vegetable pieces show. The rust passages were dyed before the ivory wool was knotted into the field, the standard sequence for high-contrast designs.
The composition
An ivory field carrying rust floral work across the centre and through the corners. A central medallion in deeper rust anchors the eye, with smaller floral incidents radiating outward. The border is rust on rust, with cream guard bands separating the framing register from the field. The colour reads warm against cream walls and gains depth under directional light. The wool's natural lustre carries the rust passages with slight tonal variation across the field.
What you are buying
Equivalent traditional hand-knotted wool carpets at 9 x 12 list at MSRP near ₹3 lac in conventional retail. ₹1.27 lac is closer to workshop-direct economics. A traditional carpet of this construction appreciates with use, softening underfoot and developing the patina that distinguishes a long-used piece from a new one. The cost reflects the weaver-months invested.
The piece in a room
9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) is the canonical drawing-room scale. The ivory and rust palette pairs with cream walls, oak or walnut floors, brass, leather, and warm-toned upholstery. The carpet sits comfortably under a long sofa group or a ten-seat dining table. Pairs poorly with cool greys and modern minimal interiors that strip away the warm context the rust requires.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet half a turn every six months. Vacuum weekly on suction only with the beater bar lifted. Blot spills immediately with cotton, never rub. Hand-wash by a wool-trained conservator every five to seven years. Cared for this way, the carpet runs sixty to eighty years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
