Camel as a primary carpet colour came into the Persian-style vocabulary through the desert weaving traditions that worked with naturally pigmented sheep wool. Spun without dyeing, camel wool gives a warm beige that no synthetic shade quite replicates, with subtle striations from the source flock running through the field. Combined with ivory motifs, the palette anchors a room without ever reading as either too neutral or too ornate.

Two to three weavers shared this loom in India over approximately five months. The cotton foundation was set up first, then warps tensioned and the first weft passes laid in. The pile is hand-spun wool, including the camel-toned ground in its natural undyed state, and the ivory accents which were either left undyed or lightened in mild lime baths. Final shearing was done by hand on a level frame to bring the relief into focus.

The composition

A camel-coloured field, ivory floral motifs flowing through it as an all-over repeat, and small accents of soft brown picking up the natural striations in the camel wool. The two principal tones sit close to each other in value, which means the design reads as a soft texture from across the room and resolves into floral drawing on approach. The border is narrow and quiet; the field is the work.

What you are buying

Comparable camel-and-ivory Indian wool carpets at 8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) sit in a price band that often opens at three lakh in Western markets. The Rugsville price reflects what the loom cost and the wool cost, with a margin proportionate to the scale of the operation. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and the natural camel ground takes on a deeper warmth as the lanolin in the fibre slowly works to the surface.

The piece in a room

8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) holds a primary bedroom around a king bed with a bench at the foot, or a living area built around a four-seat sofa and a pair of armchairs. The camel ground reads beautifully against off-white plaster, against linen upholstery, and against woods in the walnut family. It is harder to pair with cool grey schemes; the rug wants warmth in the room around it.

Conservation

Rotate the rug a half turn every six months so foot traffic and ambient sunlight even out across the camel ground. Vacuum weekly with suction only. Blot spills immediately with a clean cotton cloth, working in toward the centre of the stain rather than spreading it outward. Schedule a hand wash by a wool conservator every five to seven years.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
