Beige is the most demanding ground a weaver can take on. There is nowhere for an uneven knot or a poorly matched dye lot to hide. The carpets that survive in this register, the soft camel-and-cream Heriz and Tabriz fields of the late nineteenth century, are the ones drawing the strongest auction prices today because the discipline they require has thinned out among working studios. This rug was woven by a master who has worked tonal grounds for two decades.
Three weavers shared the loom for around six months in India. The wool is hand-spun and hand-carded so the slubs and irregularities catch light at slightly different angles, the property that gives a beige field its quiet liveliness rather than reading flat. About 2.6 million Persian-style knots were tied through cotton warp. The dyes are vegetable-based, drawn from walnut hull, pomegranate skin, and oak gall, matured for two weeks in copper before the wool was lowered.
The composition
A warm beige field, almost the colour of unbleached linen at noon, carries a faint architectural medallion in pale almond. The border is restrained, a single guard band of soft russet broken by stylised palmettes. The pattern reads from across the room as a quiet tonal field and rewards close approach with the layered drawing inside it. Over a decade the field will deepen into honey rather than yellowing the way synthetic beige does.
What you are buying
Antique camel-ground Persian carpets of this scale move at international auction in the range of twenty to fifty thousand US dollars when they appear with intact sides and ends. This is a new piece woven in the same tradition, in vegetable-dyed hand-spun wool, on cotton foundation. It enters a household as a working object that gains rather than loses value as the dyes settle and the pile takes its working sheen.
The piece in a room
9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) anchors a formal living room or a long dining hall. The neutrality is its strength. The rug supports oil portraits, lacquered cabinets, deep-pile velvet, and bare oak alike without competing for attention. Lower light deepens the cream toward bone. Strong daylight pulls the russet border forward.
Conservation
Rotate the rug one hundred and eighty degrees in spring and again in autumn. Vacuum weekly with suction only, never the beater bar. Address spills immediately with a dry cotton cloth. Plan a professional hand wash every five years, performed by a conservator trained in vegetable-dyed wool. With this care the rug holds its surface for three generations.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
