There is a quiet logic to the way a traditional composition organises a floor. Centre, ground, border, corner. Nothing is decorative for its own sake. Each element holds a structural role. This rug honours that hierarchy.

2 weavers shared the loom for 5 months. Around 518,400 hand-tied knots at roughly 120 KPSI, every one set against the warp by feel rather than by template. Hand-spun wool was carded, dyed, and knotted onto cotton warp by 2 weavers sharing a single vertical loom. The dye work was done in small lots so that adjacent skeins carry the small variations of tone that give a hand-knotted carpet its eventual patina. The cartoon was drawn at full scale on graph paper and pinned behind the loom; the lead weaver called colour changes row by row, while the others worked the side fields in synchronisation.

The composition

The palette runs across blue and light blue, separated by quieter neutral channels that let the saturated notes breathe. The pattern density tightens at the centre and opens out toward the edge, a structural choice that keeps the eye moving across the surface. Light catches the wool differently along and across the pile, so the colour shifts subtly as you walk around the rug. Up close the drawing resolves into individual motifs; from across the room those motifs dissolve into atmosphere.

What you are buying

At ₹49,999 the rug sits at the accessible end of hand-knotted weaving without compromising on construction. The wool is hand-spun, the knots are hand-tied to the warp, and the dye work is done in small lots. The rug will age into character rather than wear out. Replacement value at this construction class typically runs two to three times the purchase price within a decade.

The piece in a room

At 3' x 10' (91 × 305 cm) the rug commits to its position as the organising element of the room. Furniture sits on the rug rather than around it; sofas and chairs anchor at the corners and the field becomes the visual ground for everything above it. The blue and light blue chord works with art that leans toward the warm side of the spectrum, and against minimalist black-frame photography for a quieter contrast.

Conservation

Treat the rug as a textile rather than as flooring. Suction-only vacuuming, semi-annual rotation, prompt blotting of spills, and a five-year cycle of professional hand washing will carry the carpet for the better part of a century. Avoid rubber pads; use a natural fibre underlay. If a spill sets, call a wool-trained cleaner rather than reaching for a domestic carpet shampoo, which will set the stain permanently.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
