Complete your setup
Light blue is the most demanding of the over-dye colours, because the bath has to be calibrated to lift a faded floral field into a clear modern blue without flattening the underlying drawing. The Traditional Overdyed Light Blue runner takes a classical floral hand-knotted carpet through this process, then trims it into the long narrow runner format that suits hallways and the long sides of dining halls. The colour reads as a soft daylight blue, not the hot indigo of a traditional Persian.
One weaver tied this 2'6" x 12' (76 x 366 cm) runner in India over around five to six months. The pile is hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, knotted with the asymmetric knot. After weaving the rug went through an antique wash to soften the original colour, was sheared close, and then immersed in a hand-mixed light blue dye for several hours.
The composition
A soft light blue field with the underlying floral repeat reading in a slightly deeper blue. The over-dye carries quiet variation across the length of the runner; older sections of the underlying weave drink the colour more completely than newer sections, giving the field a subtle abrash. The drawing is visible without dominating; the rug reads as a single soft blue field at viewing distance.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted over-dyed runners in this length sit at two to three times this MSRP at Western dealers. The over-dye is a hand-mixed immersion bath, not a chemical surface treatment. The runner is a contemporary work in a thirty-year-old commercial tradition; it appreciates with use as the wool gains lustre.
The piece in a room
2'6" x 12' (76 x 366 cm) suits a long hallway, the gallery side of a kitchen, or the foot of a long dining table. The soft light blue palette sits with limewashed walls in cream or pale grey, with raw oak floors, with brass and bronze fittings. The runner reads best in a corridor with mixed natural and warm electric light; both bring the over-dye forward differently.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly along the length with the beater bar disengaged. Rotate end for end every six months for even wear. Blot any spill immediately with a clean white cotton cloth from the outside in. Hand-wash by a wool conservator every five to six years. The light blue holds its over-dye depth with this routine.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
