Hand-spun wool with intact lanolin throws back the dye in ways no industrial process replicates, and that variation is what gives the field its depth.

The composition

A continuous grey field with the soft tonal movement of weathered limestone. The original floral medallion is no longer the focus, surviving only as a slightly darker zone in the centre that the eye reads as gravity rather than as drawing. Borders dissolve into the field. The rug presents as a single considered colour rather than as a pattern, which is the entire point of the overdye tradition.
