Complete your setup
The dhurrie has lived in subcontinental domestic and palace interiors for a thousand years, a flat-weave form that survived the arrival of pile carpet under the Mughals because its lighter weight and reversibility suited the climate and the season.
The dhurrie was hand-loomed in 3 weeks of bench time. The construction is weft-faced flat-weave, no pile, no knot, the design built into the structure of the cloth itself. The jute / sisal was selected for staple length and tensile strength suited to flat-weave construction, where every weft pass takes the full mechanical load of the design. Lower grades of fibre will pull and slacken over time; the grade used here holds the geometry through decades of household use without the warp showing through the design.
The composition
A natural ground worked through with geometry the form has carried for two centuries. Flat-weave does not hide its construction; the visible weft is part of the design and reads as a deliberate textural element rather than as something to look past. The colour will move slightly over the first year of use as the dye sets into its final register and the natural light exposure works the saturation toward its long-term level. A flat-weave does not arrive complete; it settles into its finished state over the first season.
The piece in a room
5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) is the working scale for a sun room, an open kitchen, a long hallway, the floor under a dining table where a wool pile would crush against the chair legs. The natural fibre pairs with rattan, cane, raw timber, white-painted brick, indoor planting, and bleached linen.
Care
Suction-only weekly vacuuming. Spot clean spills immediately with cool water and a white cloth, blotting rather than rubbing the area. Avoid prolonged direct sun on the dyed sections of the design. A specialist hand wash every two to three years preserves the colour and structure. Reverse the rug every season to balance fade and wear, and pad with a thin underlay against any hard floor.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
