A tile rug works as a quiet anchor. No competing focal points, no busy borders, just a considered field that gives the room its ground without asking for the eye. The discipline is in the editing; many of the strongest tufted designs are the ones the studio kept simple when the temptation to add was strong.
Two tufters worked the design over seven to eight weeks, with a finisher cutting and trimming the surface by hand at the end. The wool is pushed through canvas row by row from the back of the work, then sheared from the front to set the pile depth. The scrim and latex on the underside hold the structure.
The composition
The grey field carries the work. Secondary tones sit close in value rather than competing, so the eye reads the pattern as one composition rather than as a layered surface. The tile structure shows differently in morning and evening light, the weave catching shadow at low angles and flattening to a single colour plane at midday. Walk past the rug and it changes; sit beside it and it settles. That movement is part of how a hand-finished textile lives in a room.
The piece in a room
9' x 12' (274 × 366 cm) is drawing-room scale. The rug expects a full sectional, a dining table for ten to twelve, or a substantial sitting arrangement above it. The tile composition is sized for that distance and reads as a single field rather than as a tile repeat. Mid-tone walls hold the saturation; bright daylight helps the dye depth read; darker walls let the rug recede into the architecture as a settled ground rather than a figure.
Care
Suction vacuum weekly. Blot spills with cool water and a clean cloth. Light shedding settles inside two months and does not affect the body of the rug. A professional dry clean every two to three years keeps the wool fresh and the latex backing sound. Use an underlay sized to the rug to prevent slipping and to extend the life of the backing.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
