The two were woven together in graded transitions, the dyer providing yarn from staged batches as the weavers moved up the loom.

The composition

A warm rust field that softens into a paler beige toward one end of the rug, with the transition handled as a tonal wash rather than as a hard line. The hand-spun wool absorbs the dyes unevenly by design, with the rust-to-beige boundary reading as a graded watercolour rather than as a printed border. The colour will continue to age. The rust passages warm toward terracotta with light exposure, the beige holds steady, and the contrast between zones sharpens slightly across the carpet's first decade.
