Purple is the hardest colour to dye well in any natural fibre. The chemistry shifts with every variable in the bath, the fibre type, the water hardness, the temperature, the dwell time, so that two batches dyed an hour apart will read as different colours under daylight. In silk the problem compounds because the fibre catches a wider spectrum of ambient colour than wool does. The bath that produced this purple was tuned over six trial dips before the master dyer signed off on the final tone.
The piece was hand-knotted in India by two to three weavers over close to six months. Bamboo silk pile worked over a cotton foundation, every knot tied by hand using the Tibetan asymmetric loop that the silk fibre demands. The rug went through three rounds of dry shearing and one wet wash, each pass cutting the pile down by fractions of a millimetre to bring the surface flat enough for the silk to read as a single optical plane.
The composition
One field of deep purple, modulated only by the directional shimmer of the silk. The colour leans aubergine in low light and pulls toward magenta under direct daylight, which is the deliberate effect of the bamboo silk fibre catching ambient colour. There is no border, no medallion, no central figure. The rug is built to function as a saturated ground for a room with restrained walls and considered furniture, the way a deep glaze sits behind a still life.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted bamboo silk at 6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) is a primary-room scale piece. Six months of skilled hand labour at this density justifies the original price; the clearance figure here sits well below the cost-recovery point on the build time alone. Comparable silk knot work at this scale through Western dealers runs at multiples of this number. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating; the silk lustre opens up with daily traffic.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) is a working size for a primary living room with a small sofa arrangement, a generous bedroom under a queen bed, or a study with two armchairs and a low table. Purple at this saturation needs restrained walls; pale plaster, deep navy, and warm grey all hold it. Avoid using it against patterned wallpaper or against another high-saturation textile in the same room.
Conservation
Silk does not tolerate a beater bar. Vacuum suction-only. Blot spills with a clean white cloth and cool water, never rub. The dye is colourfast under normal use; avoid alkaline cleaners or strong solvents. Professional hand-clean by a silk-trained conservator every five to seven years. Rotate twice a year to keep the lustre even.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
