The composition is built around an all-over lattice. Everything else in the rug works in service of it. The border, the secondary motifs, the colour ratios were all worked back from that single decision before a knot was tied. The result is a piece that reads as one considered field rather than as a collection of decorative parts.
A single weaver worked this piece for four months in India. The pile is hand-spun wool. The foundation is cotton. Every knot tied by feel against the warp, then beaten down with a steel comb before the next row went in. The making is slow because the result is meant to last several lifetimes.
The composition
The drawing favours gold over decoration. Open ground carries most of the surface; the figure work concentrates at the edges and along a single axis. The discipline of the composition is what gives the rug its presence; nothing in the field is there to fill space. The colour holds slight variation knot to knot, which is what reads as warmth across the surface and which no industrial process can reproduce.
What you are buying
Antique pieces in this idiom with comparable density and condition come up at international auction in a price band considerably above this listing when they appear at all. This is a new weaving in the same tradition, on the same kind of loom, at the same density, in the same fibre. The carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating. There are very few household objects you can say that of at any price.
The piece in a room
2'6" x 12' (76 × 366 cm) is the working scale for a small living room, a study, a guest bedroom, or a dining nook for two to four. It anchors a seating area with the front legs of the sofa landing on the rug and the back legs on the floor. Pairs with both contemporary upholstery and older leather without forcing a register. The rug holds a slow conversation with whatever sits on top of it rather than insisting on a single decorating direction.
Conservation
Rotate seasonally, vacuum weekly with the beater bar off, blot rather than rub when something spills. A conservator-grade wool wash every five to seven years keeps the dye fresh and the foundation clean. The rug answers slow steady care with a long working life and arrives at a patina that no new piece can imitate.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
