Hand tufting lets a designer commit to a single saturated colour at scale that knotted work struggles to reach without doubling the time. The wool takes dye to a depth synthetic fibres cannot mimic, and the latex backing keeps the rug flat through years of foot traffic without the rug walking the floor as cheaper backings do.
This rug was hand-tufted in India over 8 weeks by a small team of two tufters and a finisher. Wool pulled through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time, then bonded at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim. The pile was sheared by hand at the end so the beige field sits clean against any contour the design holds, and the rug was washed and dried flat to set the surface.
The composition
A repeating lattice over a beige field that shifts between sand and bone depending on the daylight. The geometry is calm enough to disappear when the room is busy and assertive enough to hold the floor when the room is quiet. The relief between the lattice line and the field deepens as the pile settles. The geometry holds at distance and rewards close looking, which is the test a long-lived design has to pass to stay in production for more than a season.
The piece in a room
At 9' × 12' (274 × 366 cm) the rug operates at drawing-room scale. The beige field carries a sectional sofa, a six-to-eight seat dining table, or a king bed with both nightstands above the pile. This is the size at which the rug becomes the work the room is arranged around rather than the surface that sits beneath it. Mid-tone walls hold the saturation and direct daylight restores the dye depth that interior light slowly washes out. Reads against limewashed walls, plaster finishes, and stone-coloured paint in the cooler half of the spectrum.
Care
Vacuum weekly, beater bar off. Expect light shedding for the first six to eight weeks as loose fibre works free of the pile. Blot spills, never rub. Professional dry clean every two to three years. A tufted rug treated this way holds its weight and finish for ten to fifteen years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
