By the early nineteenth century, regional looms in central Persia were producing the open, airy compositions that would define the Western drawing room for a hundred years. The vocabulary travelled east through Indian workshops that absorbed the technique without losing the original eye for proportion.
The piece took 2 weavers working approximately 4 months on a single beam. Thousands of persian-asymmetric knots, each one tied by feel rather than by count. The yarn is New Zealand wool, prepared in copper vats with vegetable dyes that mature for two to three weeks before the wool is lowered.
The composition
A turquoise register sits at the centre of the composition, ringed by drawing that holds the eye without crowding it. The overdyed motif vocabulary is restrained. There is no padding. Light will lift the depth of the dye over the years and traffic will compress the pile into the soft sheen that distinguishes a long-lived carpet from a new one. The colour interaction continues to shift for the first decade of use, which is the point at which the rug reaches its mature palette.
What you are buying
At ₹36,099 the rug is an entry point to collecting hand-finished wool work. The fibre, the knot count, and the loom discipline match pieces sold at multiples of this price by Western dealers. Hand-knotted carpets do not depreciate. The pile compresses into a soft sheen, the dye deepens, and the rug is worth more in twenty years than it is today.
The piece in a room
At the size as listed, the rug holds its place as the focal element of a considered room. Pair with quiet upholstery and warm wood so the turquoise field reads as the work the rest of the composition is arranged around.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly, suction only. Rotate the rug end for end every six months so foot traffic and natural light age the surface evenly. Blot spills with a dry cotton cloth and follow with cool water on a second pass. Hand-wash by a wool-trained conservator every five years. The piece is built to outlive several refurbishments of the room it sits in.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
