By the late 1800s, the workshops at Sultanabad in central Iran had reshaped what the Anglo-American drawing room expected of a carpet. A European buying office in Tabriz pushed weavers to thin the dense floral repeats of classical Persia into the open, breathing fields collectors wanted. The pattern in this rug descends directly from that line.
Four weavers at the tufting frame for four to five months, with a finisher working behind them. The yarn was prepared in the same workshop where the rug was made; the small-batch dye process gives the surface its slight tonal drift. The back was sealed in latex with a cotton scrim, then the field was sheared at finish for an even pile and washed to settle the dye.
The composition
Built on a burgundy register. The field is held open enough that the eye moves across it rather than landing in any single place. The slight irregularities in dye saturation are not flaws; they are the signature of wool batched in small lots and dyed in copper vats by hand. Photographic accuracy was never the goal. The colour the rug carries in person is warmer, softer, and longer-lived than any image of it can suggest. The geometry is sized for the room rather than for the photograph; the rug rewards a close look as much as a standing one.
The piece in a room
10' x 14' is gallery scale. The rug carries a great-room or a banquet dining arrangement and reads from the second floor of a double-height room. At this scale the pattern becomes composition rather than decoration; the architecture is built around it. The piece works against polished concrete, marble and wide-plank oak with equal authority. It is the principal colour decision in the room and asks the rest of the palette to take its cue from there.
Care
Vacuum weekly with no rotary brush; the beater action will pull tufts loose from the latex bond and the piece will lose body before its time. Blot spills with a clean dry cloth followed by a slightly damp one. Initial shedding for the first month or two is normal. Professional dry-cleaning at two-year intervals preserves the surface.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
