The stripe is the most economical mark a loom can make. Every weaving culture in the world begins with a stripe and most return to it. The Pueblo, the Tuareg, the Welsh, the Bauhaus, all settled on the simple horizontal band as the truest expression of what a loom does.
The piece took around four weeks on a stretched canvas frame under One weaver and a finisher. The wool was hand-spun and prepared in small dye batches before any of it reached the canvas. The pile was pulled through with a tufting gun row by row, the back sealed in natural latex with a cotton scrim, and the surface sheared down by hand at finish for an even plane.
The composition
The principal register of the composition is a green register. The figures of the design carry the secondary palette and the ground holds the principal colour without competition from the borders. Across the first year of use the surface will deepen in tone as the wool oxidises against ambient light, and the colour relationships in the field will tighten into the saturation the workshop intended. The composition reads as one settled gesture rather than a tile that repeats, which is the older and harder achievement in carpet design.
The piece in a room
At 3' x 5' the rug works under a hall console, beside a bed, or as a hearth piece in front of a fireplace. It carries a strong individual presence at this scale and is read close to before it is read across. Mid-tone walls hold the saturation of the field; pale walls push the palette forward as a focal element. The piece does not need a furniture frame to anchor it.
Care
Weekly suction-only vacuuming is enough for the surface. Address spills immediately with a clean dry cloth; if needed, follow with a slightly damp one and a drop of mild detergent. Light shedding clears in four to six weeks. Send the piece for professional dry cleaning at two-year intervals to keep the wool finish and the latex backing in good condition.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
