Dhurrie weaving runs through Indian textile history as a parallel tradition to the knotted carpet, older on Indian soil and quietly more domestic. Royal storerooms in Rajasthan and Gujarat held large dhurries by the hundred, and prison workshops under the British produced them at industrial scale through the nineteenth century.
The work took about two weeks on a horizontal loom under One. The yarn was prepared in small dye batches and packed weft by weft against a cotton warp. There is no knot and no pile; the design is built into the weft and the rug carries the same image on both faces. The flat structure makes the piece fully reversible across its working life.
The composition
The colour register holds a red register as its principal value. The design is allowed enough silence around itself that the field never falls into competition with the border or the centre. Plant-derived dye keeps the surface alive across changing daylight; the same panel reads warmer in lamp light and cooler at midday, which is the working signature of vegetable colour. The composition rewards both a long look from across the room and a close inspection from a low chair beside the rug.
The piece in a room
2' diameter round is an under-furniture scale. Beneath a small dining table, a hallway console, or the centre of a foyer. The closed shape is its own arrangement and asks nothing of the surrounding furniture. Pairs naturally with circular pendant lighting and curved upholstery; the geometry of the room organises itself around the rug rather than against it.
Care
Flip the rug periodically to even the wear; the flat structure is fully reversible and reads identically from either side. Vacuum on suction with the beater bar off. Blot spills with cold water and a drop of mild soap, working from the outside in to avoid spreading. Professional dry clean every three years preserves the finish and lifts dust the vacuum will not reach.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
