A dhurrie is the truest expression of what an Indian loom does. The structure is weft-faced, the design counted as the rug grows, and the surface is worked flat enough that the piece reads almost as cloth on the floor. Stripes, chevrons and lozenges are the building blocks; everything else is a recombination.
The piece occupied One for about two weeks on a flat loom. The weft was packed against a cotton warp by hand, beat by beat, with the design carried in the weaver's memory rather than read from a paper plan. There is no pile and no knot; the rug is fully reversible and the surface reads as cloth more than carpet.
The composition
Built around a multi-toned palette. The composition is the result of a slow studio process; the cartoon was charted at scale, the dye batches were proofed against each other, and the colour relationships were settled before any wool reached the warp. The result is a single still image at room scale rather than a tiled repeat that fills a floor. The slight tonal drift across the field is the trace of small-batch dyeing in copper vats; from any standing distance it gathers into a single colour.
The piece in a room
2' diameter as a round form sits well beneath a small bistro table, in a sunny corner with a single armchair, or as a contrasting island in a larger rectangular arrangement. The geometry has no preferred orientation, which makes it adaptable to changing furniture and lighting through the life of the room.
Care
A flatweave needs less intensive care than a pile rug. Run a vacuum across the surface once a week on the lowest suction; turn the piece end for end every six months. Spills lift with cool water and a mild soap on a soft cloth, blotting only. The rug can be sent for professional dry cleaning every three to four years to renew the weft and refresh the surface colour.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
