The kilim tradition runs from Anatolia through the Caucasus into Central Asia and down into the Indian subcontinent. What survives across that geography is not a single pattern but a way of building colour by laying coloured weft against coloured weft until the surface composes itself. The vocabulary is geometric, the colours are vegetable-fast, the construction is reversible.
Jute and a cotton warp, woven flat in India over two to three weeks. The yarn is hand-spun before it reaches the loom; the colours are dyed before they reach the weaver. The construction is heavy and stable, which is what lets a jute kilim sit on a hard floor without underlay and stay flat through years of household use.
The composition
Multi blocks set against open ground. The geometry is built around the loom rather than against it; every diagonal is stepped, every curve is a stack of small rectangles. The composition reads cleanly from a standing height and rewards a closer look. The flatweave keeps the colour fully exposed; nothing is hidden in a deep pile, so the dye work has to carry the rug on its own.
The piece in a room
2'6" x 6' (76 × 183 cm) is the accent scale: under a coffee table, in a foyer, at the foot of a bed. Use it where the floor needs a single considered note rather than a full carpeted ground. The multi palette sits well against mid-tone walls and warm wood floors. Mid-saturation upholstery in linen, cotton, or undyed wool reads cleanly against the field; deeper tones in leather and walnut anchor the room from above.
Care
Vacuum weekly. Lift and shake periodically to clear dust from the weave. Spot clean with a soft cloth and a small amount of mild detergent in cool water. A professional wash every three to four years is enough to keep the colour and the structure honest. The rug is reversible by construction; flip it once every few years to even out the wear.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
