A dhurrie is a flatweave woven on a horizontal pit loom in India. The construction has not changed materially in two hundred years and continues to be the most honest way to put wool or jute on a floor. The fibre is hand-spun, the dyes are batched in small lots, and the weaver beats every row down with a wooden comb before moving on.
Hand-woven in India. The yarn is wool, hand-spun and dyed in small lots so the colour carries the slight irregularity that machine dyeing eliminates. Four weeks on the loom, with each row beaten down before the next went in. The result is a flatweave that holds its shape over decades of use.
The composition
Natural earth tones blocks set against open ground. The geometry is built around the loom rather than against it; every diagonal is stepped, every curve is a stack of small rectangles. The composition reads cleanly from a standing height and rewards a closer look. The flatweave keeps the colour fully exposed; nothing is hidden in a deep pile, so the dye work has to carry the rug on its own.
The piece in a room
5' x 8' (152 × 244 cm) anchors a primary bedroom, a small living room, or a dining set for four to six. The size carries a sofa, two side chairs, and a coffee table comfortably with the rug visible at the perimeter of the furniture. Sits well under a low coffee table with metal legs and reads through the legs of a daybed. The natural earth tones ground stays visible at the perimeter of the furniture, which is what gives the rug its work in a room.
Care
Shake the rug out monthly. Vacuum on a low setting, suction only, no brush bar. Spot-clean spills with cool water and a mild wool detergent. The flatweave will lay flatter over the first few weeks of use as the fibre relaxes into the room. Send for a professional hand wash every three to four years to keep the colour clean and the structure honest.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
