The vocabulary of Persian medallion design was codified centuries ago in the court ateliers of Safavid Isfahan and Tabriz, and every contemporary weaving in this lineage carries that DNA. Drawings were prepared by master designers, then handed to weaving rooms where the patterns were translated knot by knot into wool. This navy wool carpet draws from the long arc of Persian and Indo-Persian carpet design, reinterpreted on a vertical loom in India by hands that have inherited the technique through generations.

The piece took 4 months on the loom with 1 weavers working in shifts. Roughly 233,280 knots in total. Wool was hand-carded, hand-spun, and dyed in copper vats with a vegetable bath of madder root, indigo leaf, walnut hull, and pomegranate rind before the warp was strung. Each colour was matured for two to three weeks in the bath so the pigment took to the fibre uniformly without surface staining.

The composition

A navy ground holds the composition without dominating it. Around the centre, secondary tones build depth through layered repetition rather than through sudden contrast. Vegetable dye gives the surface its slight irregularity; what looks like uneven colour at first glance is the visible memory of small dye batches and hand-spun yarn. Step back and the field reads unified; step close and the carpet reveals its hand.

Conservation

Turn the rug half a revolution every six months. Suction-only vacuuming preserves the surface tension of the pile. Blot spills, never scrub. A specialist hand-wash every five to seven years restores the lustre and protects the cotton foundation. Stored or used, the carpet outlives its first home.
