Hand-knotted in India over roughly four months by three weavers sharing a vertical loom. The pile is hand-spun highland wool, plied thick to take a deeper trim than a Persian-density carpet, and dyed in small batches that keep the rust within a tonal range rather than a flat block. Each knot was tied against a vertical beam, then sheared to a generous 14 millimetres so the drawing sits in slight relief above the field.

The composition

A warm rust ground with an ivory medallion drawn loose at the centre and tribal flower motifs scattered through the field with the deliberate informality of a nomadic original. The rust carries faint abrash bands, the natural striping of small-batch dyeing, which read as honest in this drawing language rather than as defect. Over years of use the rust will deepen toward terracotta and the ivory will warm into bone, the way well-made tribal pieces always settle.
