Vintage Oriental drawing, washed and softened, has become one of the dominant idioms in contemporary floor design. The carpet reads as a piece carried forward from a long lineage, not as a copy of an antique. The colour has been deliberately pulled back from the saturation of a new piece, and the line work has been allowed to break in places, which is the visual signature of a rug that has lived in a room rather than sat in a warehouse.
The drawing in this piece works the convention with discipline. Brown carries the field at a settled register, and the figure resolves at room scale.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene yarn, woven on a jacquard loom in Turkey. The colour is locked into the fibre by temperature rather than applied as a surface dye, which is why the saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment-printed colour fades. The pile resists staining at the molecular level, recovers from furniture compression, and does not shed. The rug is built to take routine domestic traffic without distress and to hold its drawing through repeated cleaning. For households with children, with pets, or with the casual spill habits of an everyday living room, this construction does the work the wool tier cannot.
The composition
A composition in brown with the drawing held at low contrast so the rug acts as a settled ground rather than as a focal object. The fibre is dense enough to take regular foot traffic without crushing and recovers the pile after furniture is moved.
The piece in a room
5' × 7' (152 × 213 cm) is the working scale for an accent zone. A reading chair and a side table, the foot of a queen bed, a console-and-mirror entry composition, or a defined corner of a larger living room. The brown ground holds against pale walls and gathers around itself in the evening when the lighting drops. Pair with a single piece of upholstered furniture sitting half on, half off the rug, rather than trying to enclose a full grouping.
Care
Routine vacuuming and immediate blotting of spills are the only care this rug needs. The pile recovers from compression. The colour does not fade in interior light. The piece is built for working rooms and high-traffic corridors.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
