Complete your setup
The medallion-and-field carpet built around saturated red and saturated blue is one of the foundational compositions of village Persian weaving. The two colours sit at opposite ends of the dye palette, madder against indigo, and the contrast between them organises the entire surface. The Sadie Medallion in front of you brings that nineteenth-century vocabulary into a contemporary nine-by-twelve weaving.
Three to four weavers in India spent close to five months at the loom because nine by twelve is a substantial cartoon to read knot by knot. The drawing is squared rather than curvilinear, which gives the medallion its characteristic stepped silhouette, and the wool was lustre-washed after shearing so the surface picks up light the way a much older carpet would.
The composition
A central medallion in deep red sits on a saturated blue field, with ivory corner spandrels and a layered border in close walnut and indigo. The contrast between red and blue carries the whole rug. The pile is sheared smooth and lustre-washed, which gives the surface a velvety hand and lets the colours catch direct light. As the wool ages, the red will warm toward terracotta and the blue will settle a shade deeper.
What you are buying
Antique village carpets of this scale and palette trade at international auction at twenty to forty thousand US dollars routinely when they appear, and condition examples are increasingly limited. This is a current weaving on the same upright loom, in yarn-dyed wool, to the same compositional logic. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, which is the structural argument for paying for hand-knotted work.
The piece in a room
9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) is the canonical drawing-room scale and the right size to anchor a primary seating arrangement or a ten-seat dining table. The red and blue palette reads against cream walls and limewashed white, against oak and walnut floors, and against brass and unframed art. The rug expects to be the colour event in the composition.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly without the beater bar. Rotate end-to-end at the change of seasons so the field ages evenly. Blot spills with absorbent cotton, never rub. A wool conservator should wash the carpet every five to seven years. The rug expects an eighty-to-one-hundred-year service life on this regimen.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
