Persian weaving in green tones grew out of regional workshops where natural dye and slow loom work were the only options. The composition here keeps that discipline, with knot density and dye process matched to the weight the design needs. A heavier composition gets a tighter knot count; an open field gets the lower density that lets the wool breathe.
A single weaver shared the loom for five to six months. Around 1.0 million hand-tied knots in wool, every one tied by feel and beaten down before the next row begins. The pile is wool, chosen for its capacity to take dye in depth and to wear into a softer surface rather than a flatter one. The dyes were prepared in the traditional way and matured before the wool was lowered into the bath.
The composition
The composition uses green as its base note, with the Persian motif articulated in shifts of density rather than sharp colour contrasts. At distance the rug reads as a single tone; on approach the pattern resolves. That two-distance behaviour is why the design holds in rooms of different scales. The drawing has been calibrated to work both as floor furniture seen from the sofa and as graphic ground seen from the doorway.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted wool work in this fibre and dye discipline reaches retail in Europe and North America at multiples of the figure shown here. The price reflects direct workshop sourcing rather than gallery markup. The rug ages into the room rather than out of it; a hand-knotted carpet on this foundation is one of the few household objects that gains rather than loses value as it lives. A wool carpet at this knot count is generally accepted as a generational asset rather than a consumer good.
The piece in a room
At 2'6" x 16' (76 × 488 cm) this is corridor scale, a long hallway, the side of a long bed, or the run between kitchen counters. The Persian drawing works lengthwise so the eye is led down the rug rather than across it. The green field absorbs heavy footfall without showing wear pattern, which matters because runners take more traffic per square inch than any other rug format in the house.
Conservation
Daily life is light on a hand-knotted wool carpet. Suction vacuum weekly, rotate every six months, blot spills immediately with cool water and a cotton cloth. Schedule a conservator hand-wash every five years. Under that care the rug lasts a century and gains depth as it does so. Avoid rubber-backed pads and chemical spot treatments; both attack the wool and the natural dyes.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
